Comedy Republic Apparel is operated by The Coterie Company Pty Ltd (ABN 76 629 308 185), trading as Comedy Republic ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your personal information when you visit or purchase from comedyrepublicapparel.com (the "Site").

We are committed to handling your personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), regardless of whether the small business exemption applies to us.

What we collect

When you browse or purchase from the Site, we may collect:

  • Contact details: name, email, phone number, shipping and billing address
  • Order information: items purchased, order value, order history
  • Payment information: processed directly by our payment providers, Stripe and PayPal — we do not store your full card details on our servers
  • Technical information: IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, collected automatically via cookies and Shopify's analytics
  • Marketing preferences: if you opt in to our email list

How we use it

  • To process and fulfil your orders, including passing your name and delivery address to our fulfilment partner, Tapstitch, to print and ship your items
  • To communicate with you about your order (confirmations, shipping updates, customer service)
  • To send marketing emails, only if you've opted in — you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email
  • To improve the Site and understand how customers shop with us
  • To comply with our legal and tax obligations

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the third parties needed to run the Site and fulfil orders:

  • Shopify (platform hosting and checkout)
  • Stripe and PayPal (payment processing)
  • Tapstitch (print-on-demand manufacturing and shipping — receives name and delivery address to fulfil your order)
  • Mailchimp (if you decide to opt-in to our Comedy Republic Gazette) 
  • Law enforcement or regulators, only where required by law

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Cookies

The Site uses cookies to run the shopping cart, remember your preferences, and understand site traffic. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site features (like the cart) may not work properly without them.

Data security and retention

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your personal information, including relying on Shopify's PCI-DSS-compliant, encrypted checkout. That said, no online system is completely secure — we recommend not sending sensitive information (like full payment details) to us through unsecured channels such as email. We keep your personal information only for as long as needed to fulfil your order, meet our legal and tax obligations, and resolve any disputes.

Overseas disclosure

Some of the third parties we share your information with are located overseas. In particular, our fulfilment partner Tapstitch operates production facilities in the United States and China, and our platform provider Shopify stores and processes data using infrastructure that may be located outside Australia. By placing an order, your name and delivery address will be sent to these overseas locations so your order can be printed and shipped. We take reasonable steps to ensure our service providers handle your information securely, but we can't guarantee that overseas recipients are bound by the same privacy protections as the Australian Privacy Principles. Access and correction

You can ask us to access, correct, or (where reasonably possible) delete or transfer the personal information we hold about you at any time by contacting us at hello@comedyrepublic.com.au. We'll respond within a reasonable timeframe and may need to verify your identity first.

If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, contact us first at hello@comedyrepublic.com.au. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
